The Art Vinyl Gallery on East London's Broadway Market (E8) is a unique space designed to celebrate art & graphic design created specifically for vinyl records. The Gallery hosts record cover exhibitions that change every two weeks as  different themes, bands, artists or record labels take the opportunity to curate this original space. These exhibitions showcase vinyl cover art which celebrate the synergy that exists between art and music.

From Soho Road to the Punjab: “My inspiration is the soil” Bhagat Singh, Punjabi Freedom Fighter

The Art of Bhangra is part of ‘From Soho Road to the Punjab’ a groundbreaking visual arts exhibition. For the first time in the UK, an exhibition has been produced charting the rise and rise of Bhangra; the drum-driven music and dance from the Punjab which is now heard on streets and on dancefloors throughout the UK.

This visually strikingly exhibition will comprise of album sleeves, period photography, promotional art and rare examples of print media from the British Asian media explosion that spread the Bhangra sound across the world. The narrative panels of "From Soho Road to the Punjab" explore the Bhangra phenomenon in an inclusive and accessible manner, showcasing the stories of pioneering individuals who have championed the UK Bhangra scene. Our "exhibition champions", such as journalist and DJ Boy Chana, Kash from Aaj Khal, San-j sanj from Xecutive Soundz, Sheni Ravji from G.M.M.A.Z. and Alaap stalwart Kalyan, have allowed us unique access to their personal collections and never-before-seen photographs and archives.

This Special Exhibition showcases leading pioneer and legend of the bhangra scene San-j Sanjs favourite 50 bhangra sleeves, get ready to go down memory lane and view Bhangra record sleeves that were, innovative, cheesy and graphically outstanding.
