Pechan's Nach Pae Sur and Heera's Jagh Wala Mela  that became the foundations of his Bhangra collection. Inspired and encouraged by Pete Anderson's Nitro Express, he started to DJ and found himself a part of the early 1980's House Party culture. Always ambitious, within four years he had also established himself in promotions, first with Senator, then with Onyx. Now DJing under the name of Senator Sabzz of X-Zecutive Soundz, San-j typified a new wave of confident, ambitious Bhangra professionals; combining the enthusiasm of the first DJs with the entrepreneurship of the early promoters.

Senator Promotions were the first to hold a Daytimer outside of the University circuit. Onyx events were larger, first at Regals, Uxbridge, then by coach to Margate and, by 1986, organising Daytimers at the Hammersmith Palais. San-j took coachloads of clubbers - and bands like Heera and Holle Holle - to Birmingham, Manchester and Bradford. Much later in 2005, San-j's Drop It Like It’s Garam and 2wice as Spice nights would become successful on the London Bombass (Bollywood remix) scene. San-J moved from club to radio DJ, first at BBA and Westside then on to Club Asia, playing Bhangra and Bollywood alongside R 'n' B and Garage. After a brief stint on the BBC Asian Network he returned to Club Asia in 2005 where he currently presents the Central Show.

San-j started record label Va Wah after the success of his white label 12" single X-Zecutive in 1988. He signed East London band Jugga, whose Reggae-influenced track Gur Nalon Husn Mitha was used in the film I’m British But. San-j also became in demand as a remixer; reworking both Multitone Records' backlist - Extra Hot - and Bollywood hits - Garam Garam 1 & 2. The success of these albums in the USA, Canada and India brought him international recognition, and San-j is currently working on a series of production and remix projects. San-j Sanj is our Bhangra Champion for London.
